Let’s shout out the names!

  • Shiphrah!
  • Puah!
  • Levi’s wife! What’s her name? We’ll have to look for it . . .. Jochebed! (From Exodus 6:20)
  • Moses’ sister . . .. Miriam!
  • Pharaoh’s daughter . . . Let’s do some more digging for her name . . . Bathia! (It’s in the Talmud)

When we last saw our hero, Joseph, he was just lifted out of a pit – only to be forced into slavery in Egypt. Much has happened to Joe since then. He’s been trusted, betrayed, thrown into prison, inquired upon, trusted again and now elevated to a position of high authority. It’s time to exact his revenge on the brothers who sold him out, right?

Jealousy is an ugly, ugly thing.  Drama?  Maybe or maybe not .  . .

In the United States we consume far too much of it.  The CDC reports that about a third of all adults in the United States have a body mass index that classifies them as obese. 16% of children and adolescents are in the same condition.

Have you understood all this?

God’s neighborhood is like:

  • A mustard seed
  • Yeast
  • A merchant in search of fine pearls
  • A net thrown into the sea
  • The master of a household

You get it, right?

Yesterday I applied the liquid weed and feed to my lawn.  For a few years I had tried to keep the lawn full, lush and weed free the organic way.  Ultimately, I failed miserably and last year I went straight for the toxic chemicals that have turned my lawn into something that looks wonderful and feels pretty good under bare feet.

There are some things I really get about Jesus – he lives love and says that most important things a person can do is to love God and to love everyone else.

And there are some things I don’t think I’m supposed to get about Jesus – parables.

Do you remember the Patty Duke show? The theme song runs through my head occasionally. Here are some of the lyrics to remind you:

How much water are we supposed to drink everyday? For so long I’ve read that it is 8- 8 oz glasses per day. It’s been reported that drinking that much per day lets your body do a better job of cleaning out toxins, helps weight loss and results in healthier skin.  More recently, however, researchers have questioned the claims and the recommendation – even going as far as saying, ‘Just drink when you’re thirsty.”

Meet the 12 – sent out with authority and compassion:

Matthew, Thomas, John and James (the first of two).  Philip, Peter Andrew and Bartholomew. (The other) James, (zealous) Simon, (fickle) Judas and (nothing rhymes with) Thaddeus.
