"Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings
infinite distances continue to exist, a wonderful living side-by-side
can grow up, if they succeed in loving the distance between them
which makes it possible for each to see each other whole against the sky."

"Too often we excuse those who are willing to build their own lives on the shattered dreams of other human beings." My hero- RFK. Part of his speech on the mindless menace of violents in America. You can here the whole speece on YouTube. Brilliant speaker. I had the honor to meet one of his sons, Max Kennedy. I told him that his dad is my hero and a few other things; he gave me a hug and I got our pix taken togather.

"Sometimes
we need to get away from the busyness of the world around us
and search out the quiet places ---
places where we may seek understanding,
take time to organize our thoughts,
in touch with our deepenst selves,
and then
be ready to give all that is asked of us to our world again."

"Lament and mourn and weep.
Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into dejection.
Humble yourelves before the Lord, and he will exalt you." Jasmes 4:9-10

Evagrius Pinticus wrote, "let your first prayer be for the gift of tears. Sorrow will soften your natural disrespect. Once you have confessed your sinss to the Lord, he will forgive you. When you pray with tears, God will pay close attention. Nothing pleases the Lord more than an entreaty accompanied by tears.
"Though fountains of tears flow during your prayer, never think that you are better than others. Your prayers have simply received the help you need to confess your sins without hindrance."
WHEN YOU PRAY WITH TEARS, GOD WILL PAY CLOSE ATTENTION.

nice quotem Max. . . so I Googled "Evagrius Pinticus" to see who this person was, and Google said: "did you mean Evangrius Ponticul?" so I clicked "ok" and found:

"Evagrius Ponticus, or Evagrius the Solitary (345-399 A.D.) was a Christian monk and ascetic. One of the rising stars in the late fourth century church, ..." (wikipedia.com)

and this:
"Evagrius Ponticus (c. 346-399) was an Egyptian monastic, and one of the earliest spiritual writers on asceticism in the Christian eremitic tradition. ..."

The quote was from my devotional, May 31th...it came propitiously as I was really feeling sad, as I contemplated on the state of our nation, and the world...pondering what and how to be an Easter People in a Good Friday world....
Blessings and peace,

"What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up like raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore? And the run?
Does it sink like rotten mean? Or crust or sygar over? Like syropy sweet?

Maybeit just sags
like a heavy load

Or does it explode?"

"The cause of all our personal problems and nearly all the problems of the world can be summed up in a single sentence: Human life is very deep, and our modern dominant lifestyle is not."

this is funny: I read the tab on my tea-bag this morning to say: "Feel great, act great, and improve yourself."

["okay, I'm workin' on that," I think to myself.]

After I got home from working out at the pool, I looked at the tab again to see that it really said: "Feel great, act great and approve of yourself."

Oh, my! did that speak to me!

:-)

MUCH different message!! I think approving leads to improving. When I approve of myself (as an overall being) I find it much easier to improve the areas that need it.

I agree completely. I can't tell you how many people I have met that are more critical because they are insecure in themselves. I'm trying to teach my children this.

"N'oublie pas les chevaux écumants du passé"
Close your eyes and listen to the noise of this human crowd behind you. All this humanity that preceded you!
Feel this long ‘chain of lovers’ (words of Eluard) of which at this moment you are the only visible link!
They did not despair of the world and you are the living proof!
It is with this awareness that you will find the force and courage to press forward.
The past does not hold us back but anchors us in the present, it instils us with the élan needed to press forward.

From the cover notes of the newest CD by Linnea Good, Canadian singer/songwriter:

"...I know that life is not lived by its end-notes, but mid-song. In the arc of everyday living, we are suddenly stilled and held in the moment. Something becomes illuminated, suddenly true and in its right place. We know ourselves to be alive. Yet, the day propels us forward once again... If sainthood means living from the Center, then most of us are but Momentary Saints. And maybe that's just fine. Life is not about living up to something; it's about living into something."

Two quotes by Arthur John Gossip from a sermon he gave after his wife's sudden, tragic death: "Those who live in the sunshine may have faith, but those of us who walk in the shadows MUST have faith." "Peace does not come with the absense of troubles, but with the conscious realization of adequate resources."

"What is therefore, our task today? Shall I answer: 'Faith, hope and love?' That sounds beautiful. But I would say – courage. No - even that is not challenging enough to be the whole truth. Our task today is recklessness ... [t]o restlessly seek to change human history until it conforms to the norms of the Kingdom of God."
