 <--- That's me at "La Casa de Maria" retreat center in Santa Barbara. (I live in southern California), I'm married, two "kids" (26 & 22) Saneya and Devin, two dogs, Caroline and Rocky. I like cats too, but right now, we have dogs. I'm an artist & interior designer (by education) with many other interests. . . too many to list. I grew up in UCC churches (Denver, Colorado). Went to Art College in California, moved to Hawaii, learned to meditate and became a TM (Transcendental Meditation) teacher (that was my spiritual community and my ministry). Some time Later, I felt the need to belong to church again. For several reasons: to provide for my kids an alternative to the loud voices of fundamentalist Christians, to get back to my religious roots, and find the deeper spirituality that I now knew was there. So, my husband and I did some church visitations and ended up in the United Chruch of Religious Science (NOT Christian Science or Scientology). UCRS (now doing buisness under the new name of United Centers for Spiritual Living -UCSL), has it's philosophical roots in the American Transcendentalist movement (Emerson), and the founder, Ernest Holmes, was a Congregationalist. As part of the "New Thought/Ancient Wisdom" church movement, Religious Science philosophy is drawn from the universal truths that all of the great religions share, an emphasis on prayer and healing as taught by Jesus, with the addition of the "new" (to the 20th century) study of psychology, how the mind works in the co-creation of our own lives. At the age of 58, I am a ministerial student, so I find this web site interesting. I especially enjoy the "Weekly Seeds" Bible study. I am interested in all religions. And love to talk about concepts of God, prayer and things like that. I am also exploring different ways of "doing" ministry. I went to the Live Chapel and found that really really nice.
