Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water. Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass it. The soft overcomes the hard; the gentle overcomes the rigid. -- Tao Te Ching

"of course, if you hit the water too hard, it hurts like the dickens!"

--Richard Kiraly, Belly-Flop Avoider.

"I like to walk alone on country paths, rice plants and wild grasses on both sides, putting each foot down on the earth in mindfulness, knowing that I walk on the wondrous earth. In such moments, existence is a miraculous and mysterious reality.

People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child--our own two eyes. All is a miracle."

-Thich Nhat Hanh, "Miracle of Mindfulness"

"Happiness and suffering come from your own mind, not from outside. Your own mind is the cause of happiness; your own mind is the cause of suffering. To obtain happiness and pacify suffering, you have to work within your own mind."

Maybe we should start a poetry corner. :)
This is from our poet laureate.
STONE

Go inside a stone
That would be my way.
Let somebody else become a dove
Or gnash with a tiger's tooth.
I am happy to be a stone.

From the outside the stone is a riddle:
No one knows how to answer it.
Yet within, it must be cool and quiet
Even though a cow steps on it full weight,
Even though a child throws it in a river;
The stone sinks, slow, unperturbed
To the river bottom
Where the fishes come to knock on it
And listen.

I have seen sparks fly out
When two stones are rubbed,
So perhaps it is not dark inside after all;
Perhaps there is a moon shining
From somewhere, as though behind a hill--
Just enough light to make out
The strange writings, the star-charts
On the inner walls.

"?" : Could it be that the Truth is, we are already free?

We must wake up to the Truth of our freedom; not in recklessness, but in mindful awareness.

Freedom comes with responsibility; all of our choices (thoughts, words, and actions) have consequences, sometimes unintended consequences from unconscious choices.

Yesterday, I heard someone say that discipline brings freedom.

"Our mind is like an onion, and each day and month of practice progressively peels away the layers of delusion.
-Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey, Advice From a Spiritual Friend.

Love and Blessings,

I am always gratefull for the wisdom and grace that Subear brings to these pages. A small part of what I understand in her recent words about Truth and freedom is this:

God has already given the gift of freedom to each of us. The issue, then, is not if or when God will give us that precious gift. The issue has to do with if and when we will decide to recognize and receive that precious gift, and how we choose to embrace that gift as it finds expression in our lives.
