What's a Care Circle, and is that a UCC thing or something your church does?

I have seen Care Circles in various models around the UCC - Circular Congregational Church in Charleston calls them "Tribes," I believe...

Garden of Grace members, visitors, and others gather in Care Circles to examine the scriptures through various series, including “Vital Pursuits,” “Authentic Relationships,” and “How the New Testament Came to Be.” Other Care Circles focus on social activities, such as Movie Night, Dining Out, Game Night, etc.

Care Circles gather twice monthly to share in prayer, devotion, and fellowship. These are great places to find friends and ministries. Leaders of Care Circles have to go through a Small Group Leadership program (usually but not always). I'm not aware if this is something universally offered through the UCC churches in general, though - I believe it is Church specific.

Essentially, it is a way for people to get to know each other in smaller groups, geographically arranged or arranged in other ways (women's group, men's group, lesson-based, etc.).

I was raised in as a Roman Catholic. However, I attended a Methodist college. Can someone tell me what to expect at a UCC service?

marla, you can expect everything and nothing at a UCC service.

We're such a diverse church, that really the only good answer to your question is to check out a local UCC congregation and find out what it's like.

I, too, was raised Roman Catholic. I hope you'll find in a church near you what you're looking for.

And I hope you'll continue to look to i.UCC as a community where you can find opportunities for prayer and relationship.

Welcome Marla, I am glad that you came to to this site and hope that you found a new home. As for music, it can change greatly even within one church. The church that I am leaving (since I just moved and it is 40 minutes away) has a large organ that is played 3 weekends a month then the 4th weekend is praise band Sunday. The chuch I am rejoining in September (10 minute drive) had everthing from Gospel to classics (our director is a singer with the local opera company) to tradition and modern. That is just one of the wonder's of UCC all voices are heard no matter how they sing their praises.

God is found in the least likely places, if we'd open our eyes to see him all around us.

UCC 101
Learn more about the UCC's past and present, and the future of our "united and uniting church" which we hope will include you! We've got blogs, videos and a discussion space where you can ask questions about the church—and about this online community. UCC members are also welcome!

Opening the Bible
We believe that when you explore the Bible, you don't have to check your mind at the door—or your curiosity. Scripture can do great harm when used as a weapon, but it also opens a door to the story of God's loving relationship with humanity.

Spirit Café
We invite you to an interactive space for spiritual inquiry and exploration. Learn about new and ancient spiritual practices, and share your spiritual journey with others on a quest like yours.

Prayer Chapel
End your day with a simple, quiet, meditative experience of evening prayer. We gather in our virtual Prayer Chapel every night at 9 p.m. (Eastern). At all other times, you're welcome to post your prayer requests in our Prayer Chapel Forum.
