You can find Koinonia UCC on the island of Xenia. Koinonia comes from the Greek word (κοινωνία) that means partnership or fellowship. Koinonia holds the idea of joint participation in something with someone, such as in a community, or team or an alliance or joint venture, action included in its meaning.
Xenia derives its name from the Greek word for hospitality (Greek ξενία, xenía and guest-host relations. We are practicing hospitality when we welcome guests — including strangers and enemies — into our lives with graciousness. To be hospitable, you need to accept pluralism as a natural condition in the world. Celebrate the diversity of the Creation. The idea of community denotes a “common unity” of purpose and interests. By engaging in this united relationship a new level of consciousness and conscience emerges that spurs the group to higher order thinking and action, thus empowering and encouraging its members to exist in a mutually beneficial relationship. No where in the framework of community is their implied a hierarchy of command and control. While there is leadership, the leader’s task is to focus energy, and align interests, not impose control.
Koinonia seeks to create a bond through which to build trust and, especially when combined with the values of Wisdom, Virtue and Honor, overcomes two of humanity’s deepest fears and insecurities: being betrayed and being demeaned.
Our community in SL extends to include the island of Qoheleth, which is an interfaith learning SIM inteded to encourage dialgoue between people from the world's rich tapestry of faith traditions.
Second
Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents.
Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today
is inhabited by a total of 6,628,340 people from around the globe.
From USA Today "
Second Life was created by Linden Lab in San
Francisco in 2003; its founders imagined a social platform for an
idealized online society. Membership has soared to 5 million; it has
established a thriving economy and become a popular venue for politics
and education.
Wherever the human imagination goes, so goes the
spirit. Second Life is now also opening windows on religious and
spiritual expression. Theologians and philosophers may debate the
authenticity of religious life online, but out on the Internet faith
frontier, believers are too busy to listen."
