We've Always Done It This Way vs Tradition(s)

I have just returned from an interview with a church of the Evangelical Tradition.  In the course of discussion they told me the Elders (of which there are 18!!) when they serve communion (4 at a time) they wear black robes.  I am wondering if this comes from the Evangelical Tradition of our UCC or is this WADITW?

Not that there is anything wrong with WADITW, but I like to have a background/deeper reason before swallowing whole.

I'm sure many of you have lived in similar situations....

care to share any??

Cathy

I haven't run into the black robes tradition -- but I have run into the "you're not old enough yet" communion restrictions before. I've served in churches with congregational and evangelical backgrounds.
